Understanding Role Abilities

How Role Abilities work in Cyberpunk RED and how to maximize your Role's unique power.

Overview

Every Role in Cyberpunk RED has a unique ability that defines their gameplay niche. Understanding your Role Ability and how to level it is crucial to effective play.

What Are Role Abilities?

Role Abilities are special skills unique to each Role. Unlike regular skills, they can only be used by that Role and often have unique mechanics. They're purchased with IP like other skills but represent your character's professional expertise.

Solo: Combat Awareness

Adds to initiative and allows special combat actions. At higher levels, grants Precision Attack (called shots), Threat Detection (can't be surprised), and Damage Reduction. Solos are the premier combat Role.

Netrunner: Interface

Your NET skill. Higher Interface means better hacking, but also determines which cyberdecks and programs you can use. Netrunners are essential for information warfare.

Tech: Maker

Lets you craft items, upgrade cyberware, and jury-rig equipment. At higher levels, you can invent new items and make better modifications. Techs save the crew money and create custom gear.

Other Roles

Rockerboy (Charismatic Impact) influences crowds. Fixer (Operator) has business contacts. Nomad (Moto) provides vehicles. Exec (Teamwork) commands corporate resources. Medtech (Medicine) heals. Lawman (Backup) calls for reinforcements.

Quick Tips

  • Invest steadily in your Role Ability - it's what makes you special
  • Role Abilities at 7+ unlock powerful special features
  • Coordinate with your crew so Roles complement each other
  • Don't neglect regular skills - Role Ability alone won't keep you alive
