Damage Roll
Damage Roll
Definition
A roll made after a successful attack to determine how much damage you deal. Add relevant modifiers and subtract from the target's HP.
Example
“You hit with your longsword! Roll 1d8+3 (STR mod) for damage. You get 5+3=8 damage. The goblin only had 7 HP - it's down!”
Common Mistakes
- Adding proficiency to damage (you don't - only to attack rolls)
- Forgetting to double dice on critical hits
- Not knowing if you add ability mod to off-hand attacks (usually no in 5e)
