Endurance (Cyberpunk RED)

Skills

Definition

Endurance is the capacity to keep going: staying upright when injured, working a second night without sleep, resisting a drug or a toxin, holding out in heat, cold, or bad air. It keys off WILL rather than BODY, because the skill measures refusal more than physique. At the table it is the attrition skill. Cyberpunk RED jobs rarely resolve in one clean scene, and the crew that spends three days on a stakeout, crosses the Badlands, or gets dosed with something at a party needs someone who does not fold first. It also shows up in the ugly scenes: interrogation, exposure, and the long stretch after the medical supplies run out.

How it works

**Linked Stat**: WILL **Category**: Body **Resolution**: 1d10 plus WILL plus skill level against a DV set by how severe the strain is. A natural 10 rolls again and adds; a natural 1 rolls again and subtracts. **When it is called**: The GM asks for Endurance when the situation would realistically wear a person down: drugs and poisons, sustained exertion, sleep deprivation, environmental extremes, or fighting on through an injury. Failure usually means penalties to everything else rather than immediate collapse.

Tips

**Best for**: Nomads, Solos, and any character in a campaign that leaves the comfortable parts of the city. **Character concepts**: A Badlands runner, a Solo who works multi-day contracts, a Medtech who stays awake so the patient does not die, a fighter who has been hit before and kept going. **Synergies**: WILL is doing double duty here, since hit points are 10 plus 5 times the average of BODY and WILL rounded up. Concentration handles focus where this handles the body, and Athletics is the burst where this is the distance.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Endurance based on WILL and not BODY?

Because the skill is about refusing to stop rather than raw physique. BODY still matters for your hit points and carrying capacity, but the roll to keep going when you should not is a WILL roll.

Does Endurance help against drugs?

Yes, resisting the effects of drugs, toxins, and poisons is one of its core uses. That makes it quietly relevant at parties and negotiations, not just in the Badlands.

Is it worth taking in a city-only campaign?

Less than in a Badlands game, but it still covers being dosed, being interrogated, and fighting on while wounded. A rank of 2 or 3 is cheap insurance for those scenes.
