Features

System-accurate dice rolling with all the mechanics you need for Hunter: The Reckoning 5E.

  • d10 dice pool with Desperation dice
  • Desperate Criticals
  • Overreach or Despair choice
  • Automatic success calculation
  • Visual dice display
How It Works

Select your dice pool size and Desperation dice count, then roll. Our Hunter H5 dice roller automatically handles Desperation dice, calculates successes, and flags Desperate Criticals. A 1 on a Desperation die always prompts the Overreach-or-Despair choice, win or lose.

Pro tips

Desperation dice are a resource, not a bonus: they trigger real complications. Only spend them when the scene calls for it, and remember that a 1 on one always forces the Overreach-or-Despair choice.

FAQ

How do Desperation dice work in Hunter 5e?

Desperation dice replace regular dice in your pool once your Desperation trigger kicks in. When a Desperation die is part of a critical pair (two 10s) on a successful roll, it triggers a Desperate Critical. When any Desperation die shows a 1, win or lose, you must choose: Overreach (keep the result, but Danger rises by 1) or Despair (lose access to Desperation dice until redeemed through your Drive).

What is a Desperate Critical?

A Desperate Critical occurs when you roll a critical (a pair of 10s) that includes a Desperation die, and the roll succeeds. Mechanically it is the same 4-successes critical pair as any other, Hunter just names the case that involves a Desperation die.

What happens when I roll a 1 on a Desperation die?

Unlike some other dice-pool games, this is not an automatic failure complication: it forces a choice, on a success OR a failure. Overreach keeps the roll’s result as-is but raises Danger by 1. Despair loses access to Desperation dice entirely until you redeem them through your Drive.
