STR (Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition)

Characteristics

Definition

Strength represents your investigator's raw physical power and muscular development. It determines how much you can lift, how hard you hit in melee combat, and your ability to break down doors or escape restraints. In Call of Cthulhu, Strength is rolled on 3d6×5, giving a range of 15-90. Combined with Size, it determines your Build and Damage Bonus, which affect combat and physical contests.

How it works

**Generation**: Roll 3d6×5 (range 15-90) **Derived Stats**: - **Build**: (STR + SIZ) determines your Build rating (-2 to +6) - **Damage Bonus**: Additional damage in melee based on STR + SIZ **Hard/Extreme**: STR÷2 and STR÷5 for difficulty levels **Uses**: Melee damage, grappling, breaking objects, lifting/carrying

Tips

**When STR Matters**: Combat-focused investigators need decent STR. Low STR investigators should avoid physical confrontations. **Combat Implications**: High STR means bigger damage bonus. Combined with Fighting skill, makes you deadly in melee.

Frequently asked questions

How does STR affect combat?

STR combined with SIZ determines your Damage Bonus, which is added to melee weapon damage. Higher STR also helps with grappling and opposed strength tests.

What if my STR is very low?

Low STR investigators should rely on firearms, allies, or avoiding combat entirely. Brains often beats brawn in Call of Cthulhu.
