Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition character sheet: every box explained
The Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition character sheet uses percentile (d100) skills and eight characteristics. Every roll is d100 against a skill or characteristic rating; Regular/Hard/Extreme thresholds are half and one-fifth of the value.
Investigator identity
- occupation
Your investigator's profession, which determines which skills are occupation skills (cheaper to raise).
How to fill: Pick from the corebook occupation list or work with the Keeper to create one. Your occupation sets your occupation skill points (a formula based on EDU and sometimes another characteristic, e.g. EDU × 4 or EDU × 2 + APP × 2).
Example: Private Investigator
- age
Your investigator's age. Affects Education (higher with age) and physical stats (may decline in older brackets).
How to fill: Choose an age. Characters 40+ may need to reduce STR, CON, or DEX per the age rules.
Example: 35
Characteristics
- STR
Strength: raw physical power. Used for melee damage, forcing doors, and grappling.
How to fill: Roll 3d6 × 5 or use point-buy. Record the value (typically 15-90).
Example: 55
- CON
Constitution: health, stamina, resistance to illness and injury.
How to fill: Roll 3d6 × 5. Determines Hit Points (with SIZ) and resistance to poison/disease.
Example: 60
- POW
Power: willpower, magical aptitude, and psychic resistance. Determines starting Sanity and Magic Points.
How to fill: Roll 3d6 × 5. Starting Sanity = POW. Magic Points = POW ÷ 5.
Example: 65
- DEX
Dexterity: agility, reflexes, and hand-eye coordination.
How to fill: Roll 3d6 × 5. Determines initiative order in combat and pairs with Dodge.
Example: 50
- APP
Appearance: physical attractiveness and personal presence.
How to fill: Roll 3d6 × 5. Used for first impressions and some social interactions.
Example: 45
- SIZ
Size: overall mass and height. Combines with STR for Damage Bonus and with CON for Hit Points.
How to fill: Roll (2d6 + 6) × 5. Cannot be improved through experience.
Example: 65
- INT
Intelligence: reasoning, analysis, and idea generation. Sets your personal interest skill points.
How to fill: Roll (2d6 + 6) × 5. Personal interest points = INT × 2.
Example: 70
- EDU
Education: formal and informal learning. The primary source of occupation skill points.
How to fill: Roll (2d6 + 6) × 5. Occupation skill points usually = EDU × 2 or EDU × 4.
Example: 75
Derived stats
- HP
Hit Points (current): how much physical damage your investigator can take before falling.
How to fill: Max HP = (CON + SIZ) ÷ 10 (round down). Track current during play.
Example: 12
- HP_max
Maximum Hit Points.
How to fill: (CON + SIZ) ÷ 10, rounded down.
Example: 12
- MP
Magic Points (current): fuel for spells and mythos rituals.
How to fill: Max MP = POW ÷ 5. Most investigators rarely use MP unless they learn spells.
Example: 13
- Sanity
Sanity (current): your mental stability. Lost from encountering the Mythos; if it drops too low, you develop phobias or go indefinitely insane.
How to fill: Starting Sanity = POW. Decreases from Sanity rolls. Track current during play.
Example: 65
- Sanity_max
Maximum Sanity. Decreases as Cthulhu Mythos skill increases (max = 99 - Cthulhu Mythos).
How to fill: Starts at 99. Subtract your Cthulhu Mythos skill from 99.
Example: 99
- Luck
Luck: a spendable resource for nudging rolls. Unlike skills, Luck does not have a Hard/Extreme threshold.
How to fill: Roll 3d6 × 5. Can be spent point-for-point to adjust any skill or characteristic roll.
Example: 55
- Build
Build: your physical bulk for opposed physical contests (grapples, shoves).
How to fill: Derived from STR + SIZ. Look up on the Build table in the corebook.
Example: 1
- DamageBonus
Damage Bonus: extra damage added to melee attacks and thrown weapons.
How to fill: Derived from STR + SIZ. Look up on the Damage Bonus table.
Example: +1d4
- MoveRate
Move Rate: how far you can move in a combat round.
How to fill: Compare STR, DEX, and SIZ. If both STR and DEX are less than SIZ, Move = 7. If either equals or exceeds SIZ, Move = 8. If both exceed SIZ, Move = 9. Subtract 1 per age bracket over 40.
Example: 8
Skills
- Credit Rating
Your investigator's wealth and social standing, expressed as a percentile skill.
How to fill: Set by occupation (each occupation has a Credit Rating range). Determines your standard of living.
Example: 40 (comfortable middle class)
- Cthulhu Mythos
Forbidden knowledge of the cosmic horrors. Permanently reduces your maximum Sanity.
How to fill: Starts at 0. Increases only through encountering the Mythos (never through experience checks). Each point lowers your Sanity ceiling by 1.
Example: 3 (you've seen things)
- Library Use
Finding specific information in libraries, archives, or databases.
How to fill: Base 20%. Essential for research-heavy investigations.
Example: 55
- Spot Hidden

How to fill: Base 25%. Allocate occupation or personal interest points to raise it. One of the most-used skills in play.
Example: 60
About Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition
Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition is a horror investigation roleplaying game based on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Players take on the roles of Investigators, ordinary people who uncover cosmic horrors beyond human comprehension. As you investigate mysteries, your character's Sanity slowly erodes, skills improve through use, and the line between reality and madness blurs.
