Overview

The street samurai is the team's guaranteed answer to violence. Guns, blades, and reflexes bought from a clinic rather than inherited, backed by armor and a code the runner follows whether or not anyone else respects it. When the decker is still working and the face has run out of story, the samurai is what happens next. The build is narrow on purpose. Agility drives Firearms, Close Combat, and Stealth, and Body decides how long you keep standing through the physical condition monitor of 8 plus half Body rounded up. Chrome buys the rest, at a permanent price: Essence loss from augmentation reduces Magic and Resonance, which is why a fully chromed samurai is mundane and stays that way.

How it works

Key Attributes: Agility first, then Body, with Reaction for initiative and dodging. Every one of them caps at 6 unless your metatype raises it. Key Skills: Firearms and Close Combat are the job. Athletics, Stealth, and Perception decide whether you get to choose where the fight happens. Dice Pools: Agility plus Firearms, counting each 5 or 6 as a hit, against a threshold your GM sets from 1 for a soft target to 5 for prepared corporate security. Gear: Weapons, heavy armor, and augmentations. Track Essence against every implant, since it is the only cost the run does not pay back.

Tips and playstyle

Best for: Players who want the mechanically simplest role in the Sixth World and the largest single dice pool on the team. Character concepts: An ex corporate security operator working off a grudge, a go-gang veteran with military surplus chrome, a bodyguard whose employer did not survive the last job. Synergies: Ork and troll raise the Body and Strength ceilings this build lives on. Put ranks in Stealth so you arrive where you intend to, and let the face keep talking as long as talking is still cheaper than shooting.

Frequently asked questions

Is street samurai a rules choice or just a concept?

A concept. Archetypes in this builder describe your role on a team, not a package of mechanics, so being a street samurai means putting your best ratings into Agility, Body, Firearms, and Close Combat.

How much chrome is too much?

Any Essence you spend is gone, and it drags Magic and Resonance down with it. For a mundane samurai that costs nothing you were using, which is exactly why this archetype augments hardest.

Firearms or Close Combat?

Firearms covers the majority of fights and works at range. Take Close Combat when your metatype has a raised Strength maximum or when the team expects work in places where gunfire ends the run.
