9-70

Overview

The Entertainer works crowds, which in play means Psychology at base 10 percent, Persuade at 10 percent, Listen at 20 percent, and Disguise at 5 percent on a single occupation list. Skill points come from APP × 2 plus EDU × 2, so a magnetic character converts presence directly into ability. The occupation is built for the social half of a scenario: getting the invitation, holding a room's attention while somebody else searches it, overhearing what the band overhears, and leaving as a different person. Fighting is on the list too, which covers stage combat, strongman acts, and the practical reality of bad rooms. Credit Rating spans 9 to 70, the distance between a chorus job and a headline booking.

How it works

Occupation Skills: Art/Craft, Disguise, Fighting, Listen, Psychology, Persuade, Credit Rating Credit Rating: 9-70% Skill Points: APP × 2 + EDU × 2 (spent only on the occupation skills listed above) Typical Equipment: Costumes and stage makeup, an act you can perform anywhere, playbills and press clippings, contacts across theaters, hotels, and clubs in several cities

Tips and playstyle

Best For: Face characters, parties that need a distraction on cue, players who enjoy talking their way both in and out. Playstyle: Buy Psychology and Persuade first, then Disguise, which starts at only 5 percent but is the trick nobody else in the party can perform. Fast Talk is not on your list, so Persuade is your talking skill and rewards time over pressure. Set Credit Rating deliberately inside the 9 to 70 range, since fame and money are separate things and a famous performer with a low rating is a strong hook. Character Concepts: Vaudeville comic, touring stage magician, nightclub singer, circus strongman, actor between engagements who is very good at being believed.

Frequently asked questions

How useful is Disguise really?

Very, but it needs investment, because it starts at 5 percent and a failed roll is usually worse than not trying. Bought up, it is the cleanest way into a restricted building, a cult gathering, or a funeral where you have no business standing.

Why does the Entertainer get Fighting?

Stage combat, strongman acts, and the practical fact that performers work in rooms where fights happen. Fighting (Brawl) starts at 25 percent, so the Entertainer is the rare social character who is not helpless when a scene turns physical.

Entertainer or Dilettante for a social character?

Entertainer if you want the skills, since Disguise, Psychology, Listen, and Persuade are rolls you make every session. Dilettante if you want the Credit Rating of 50 to 99 and the doors money opens. Both build skill points from APP × 2 plus EDU × 2.
