Overview

A rigger does not go in, a rigger is already everywhere. Drones scout the roof, cover the corridor, and carry the medkit, while the getaway vehicle idles under the rigger's direct control rather than waiting on a driver's reaction time. Jumping in means experiencing the machine as your own body, which is why a rigger reacts faster through a drone than most runners do in person. The archetype is equipment heavy and repair heavy. Every drone lost is nuyen gone, so a rigger who cannot fix their own fleet burns the team's pay between jobs. Riggers also take feedback through the control rig when a drone is destroyed while jumped in, which lands on the stun monitor of 8 plus half Willpower rounded up.

How it works

Key Attributes: Reaction, which is the attribute behind Piloting, plus Logic for Engineering and Electronics. Willpower absorbs feedback from a drone dying under you. Key Skills: Piloting for ground craft, aircraft, and watercraft. Engineering for the mechanics that keep the fleet flying. Electronics for the control systems, and Perception for everything the sensors do not flag. Dice Pools: Reaction plus Piloting, counting each 5 or 6 as a hit. Repairs and builds run on Logic plus Engineering on the same scale. Gear: The archetype is its gear: drones, a vehicle, a control rig, and a workshop. Budget for replacements, not just purchases.

Tips and playstyle

Best for: Players who like managing assets and want to contribute to every phase of a run, from legwork surveillance to the extraction. Character concepts: A former delivery driver who kept the routes, an ork mechanic building drones out of scrap, a corporate test pilot who took her prototypes with her when she left. Synergies: Drones give the decker a physical platform inside a building and give the team overwatch nobody has to risk a body for. Pair Engineering with Electronics so you can both rebuild a wrecked drone and rewrite what it does.

Frequently asked questions

What does jumping in change?

You control the drone or vehicle directly instead of issuing commands, so your own Reaction and Piloting drive it. The cost is that damage to the machine feeds back on you.

Rigger or decker for surveillance?

The decker takes over cameras that already exist inside the target. The rigger brings their own, which works when the building has nothing worth hacking or when you need eyes before the run starts.

Does a rigger need a lot of cyberware?

A control rig is the defining implant, and since riggers are mundane the Essence it costs takes nothing away. Everything after that is ordinary optimization.
