Overview
Humans are the majority everywhere in the Sixth World, and nothing about a human body reads as unusual at a checkpoint or in a security review. That ordinariness is an asset on a run: off the rack armor fits, rental cars fit, and a bought identity raises no second question. Mechanically the trade is breadth for luck. A human gets no metatype bonus to any attribute maximum, so everything tops out at the general ceiling of 6, but the human Edge maximum is the highest in the setting. Edge is what you spend to reroll a failed pool, add dice, or seize the moment, so humans win the runs that come down to one bad roll.
How it works
Attribute Maximums: No metatype bonus. Every attribute caps at 6, where other metatypes push selected ones past that toward the racial ceiling of 8. Edge: The highest Edge maximum of any metatype, on the 1 to 7 scale this builder uses. Edge is luck and grit: reroll failures, add dice, or take the moment when it matters. Qualities: No metatype vision traits, no dermal armor, and no metatype prejudice working against you, which shows up as easier legwork rather than as a dice bonus. Condition Monitors: Standard, because both derive from attributes: 8 plus half Body rounded up for physical, 8 plus half Willpower rounded up for stun.
Tips and playstyle
Best for: Any archetype, and especially deckers, faces, mages, and technomancers whose key ratings are Logic, Charisma, Magic, or Resonance rather than the physical attributes other metatypes raise. Character concepts: A corporate wage earner who ran and never went back, a sprawl kid with a fixer on speed dial, an ex Lone Star officer whose face still opens doors. Synergies: Bank Edge for the roll that decides the run rather than spending it on routine tests, and pair a forgettable human appearance with Con or Influence to do legwork nobody later describes to an investigator.
Frequently asked questions
Is human the weakest metatype choice?
No, it is the one that pays in Edge instead of attributes. A troll out-lifts you permanently, but you get more chances to rewrite a roll that would otherwise end the run.
Does human have no downside?
Your maximums stay at 6 across the board, so a human street samurai will never match an ork's Body or Strength ceiling. The compensation is that no attribute is a weak spot either.
Which archetypes benefit most from being human?
The ones whose core attribute already caps at 6 for everyone, such as a decker's Logic or a mage's Magic. You give up nothing there and still collect the Edge advantage.
