Overview

The Ragabash is the New Moon auspice, the pack's scout and its licensed heretic. Where a Philodox rules and an Ahroun charges, the Ragabash is the Garou expected to ask why the plan is bad, and then to prove it by going first. W5 gives the auspice Gift themes of stealth, deception, and testing limits. In play a Ragabash does the work before the fight starts: casing a facility, walking a territory line in Lupus form for its 2 extra dice on Stealth and Survival tests, opening a door the Ahroun would rather kick down. The friction is social rather than mechanical. Your role is to needle your own pack, so settle at session zero that the questioning is in character, or the auspice reads as player-versus-player trouble.

How it works

Moon: New Moon Role: Trickster and scout, the questioner who tests the pack's limits Gift Themes: Stealth, deception, cunning Starting Gifts: 3 at creation, one of which must come from your auspice list Renown: Nothing locks a category to auspice, but Ragabash work is usually recognized as Wisdom. You assign 3 dots at creation, no more than 2 in one category

Tips and playstyle

Best For: Players who like scouting, infiltration, and solving a scene before anyone rolls initiative. Playstyle: Approach in Lupus or Homid, gather what the pack needs, and shift only when the plan fails. Buy Stealth and Larceny early and spend one of your 3 starting Specialties there. Character Concepts: Investigative journalist, urban explorer, saboteur, sept spy, the pack's youngest and least reverent member.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Ragabash supposed to annoy the rest of the pack?

Questioning is the auspice's job, but it lands better aimed at plans than at people. Poke at the Philodox ruling or the elder's blind spot, then commit fully to whatever the pack decides.

Which form should a Ragabash spend a scene in?

Lupus for approach and surveillance, since it adds 2 dice to Stealth and Survival tests, and Homid whenever you need hands, speech, or a lock. Crinos ends the sneaking instantly: it causes Delirium in mortals and fails Social tests automatically.

Do I have to take a stealth Gift at creation?

You pick 3 Gifts at creation and one must come from the Ragabash list, so at least one will sit in stealth, deception, or cunning. The other two are a Tribe Gift and a free choice, which is where you cover combat or spirit work.
