Overview

The Theurge is the Crescent Moon auspice, the seer who handles spirits and the Umbra while the rest of the pack handles the physical world. Gift themes are spirits, rites, and wisdom. A Theurge is the Garou who knows what the thing bound in the caern wants, and who notices when a spirit has been coerced. In play the Theurge is why the pack can deal with anything that is not flesh. You negotiate with a spirit instead of fighting it, run the rite the sept needs, and read why a territory has gone wrong before anyone gets hurt there. The trade is combat presence: your dots go into Occult, Awareness, and Rites, so plan to end fights by resolving what started them.

How it works

Moon: Crescent Moon Role: Mystic and seer, the pack's spiritual heart Gift Themes: Spirits, rites, wisdom Starting Gifts: 3 at creation, one of which must come from your auspice list Renown: Spirit work is usually recognized as Wisdom. You assign 3 dots at creation, no more than 2 in one category Advancement: A new Gift dot costs its new rating times 7 XP, the steepest track in the game, so choose your fourth Gift deliberately

Tips and playstyle

Best For: Players who want the lore seat, spirit negotiation, and the ritual half of the setting. Playstyle: Invest in Occult and Awareness, arrive at every spirit with a question worth asking, and treat the Umbra as a place with politics rather than a dungeon to clear. Character Concepts: Caern ritemaster, urban shaman, spirit broker, haunted archivist, a young seer whose dreams keep coming true.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Theurge hold their own in a fight?

Yes. Every Garou has the forms, and Crinos still grants 4 extra dice on Physical tests and 4 extra Health levels. You have fewer combat Gifts than an Ahroun, so shift to survive rather than to lead the charge.

What does a Theurge do in a scene with no spirits?

Read people and situations. The auspice's Wisdom lens covers investigation, lore, and intent, so a Theurge is useful anywhere the right question matters more than the right punch.

Do I need Rites to play a Theurge?

Rites are the signature, not a requirement. A Theurge built around omens, dreams, or one bound spirit ally works fine, as long as somebody in the sept can run the formal ceremonies.
