Daggerheart ancestry
Clank
Clank is an ancestry in Daggerheart: Sentient constructed beings built with purpose and precision.

Overview
Clanks are sentient mechanical beings, constructed from metal, gears, and arcane spark rather than born of flesh. Each Clank was built for a reason, and that founding purpose echoes through their identity even as they grow beyond it and define their own path. Whether assembled by a forgotten artificer, a guild of tinkerers, or another Clank, they are fully realized people with their own goals, relationships, and dreams. Clank characters in Daggerheart bring focus and tireless efficiency to any party. Their constructed nature lets them lean hard into a chosen specialty, and they recover and prepare faster than living folk, making them dependable workhorses on long, grueling adventures.
Tips and playstyle
Best Classes: Wizard (purposeful study + Knowledge), Warrior (built-for-battle focus + Strength), Guardian (tireless defender), Sorcerer (arcane spark + raw power), Ranger (relentless efficiency + Agility). Character Concepts: Decommissioned war automaton seeking peace, archival librarian-construct, a tinkerer's masterwork searching for its maker, a temple guardian awakened to free will, a self-built Clank defining its own purpose. Why Choose Clank: If you want a character who excels through specialization and outlasts everyone on the long haul, Clank is ideal. Picking your Purposeful Design Experience lets you mechanically anchor your concept, and the extra downtime move makes short rests genuinely productive.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Clank have to act on its original purpose?
No. Purposeful Design only grants a bonus when you choose to act in service of the Experience you selected. Your Clank is free to reject, reinterpret, or grow beyond its founding purpose narratively. Many of the best Clank stories are about a construct discovering who it wants to be rather than who it was built to be.
What does the extra downtime move from Efficient let me do?
On a short rest, characters normally get a limited set of downtime moves (like clearing Stress, tending wounds, or repairing armor). Efficient gives a Clank one additional move during that short rest, so you can recover more or prepare better than the rest of the party in the same window.
