Overview

Criminals survived on the wrong side of the law. Whether they were thieves, smugglers, con artists, or members of an organized crime syndicate, their career taught them to be cunning, aware of danger, and comfortable operating in the shadows. Choosing Criminal as your career means your character knows how the underworld works. They can navigate criminal networks, recognize cons and traps, and operate outside the boundaries that constrain law-abiding citizens. Many heroes with criminal backgrounds have reformed, but their skills remain sharp.

Tips and playstyle

Best Classes: Shadow (natural criminal skill synergy), Troubadour (con artist and charmer), Talent (streetwise psychic), Null (criminal who learned to resist magical detection). Character Concepts: Reformed thief, reluctant crime boss, escaped gang member, Robin Hood type, underworld informant, smuggler with a heart of gold. Roleplaying Tips: Consider why you became a criminal and why you became a hero. Were you desperate, greedy, or born into it? What pushed you toward heroism? The tension between your criminal past and heroic present creates great drama.

Frequently asked questions

Does being a Criminal mean I'm evil?

Not at all. Many Criminals turned to crime out of necessity, not malice. Your criminal career is your past, and becoming a hero is your present. The skills you learned illegally are now used to fight evil. That is a compelling character arc.

Will my criminal past cause problems?

That depends on the story and your Director. Having a criminal background can create interesting complications: old associates seeking favors, warrants in certain cities, or moral dilemmas when encountering crime. These complications make for better stories.
