Overview
Lift is brute force applied to things: raising a portcullis, shoving a boulder off a trapped ally, dragging a wounded friend out of the melee, carrying a loot chest up a cliff, holding a collapsing beam while others pass. It comes up whenever the environment is in the way: blocked doors, wagons stuck in mud, statues hiding passages, rescues where seconds matter. In combat it decides whether you move an obstacle or a body in one maneuver.
How it works
Characteristic: Might. Skill group: Might skills. Test: 2d10 + Might; 11 or lower is tier 1, 12 to 16 tier 2, 17 or higher tier 3. Training grants a benefit and unlocks attempts untrained heroes cannot make. How it is used: Tier 3 moves or holds the load with room to spare. Tier 2 succeeds at a cost, such as dropping gear or needing a second maneuver. Tier 1 means it does not budge. Edges and banes: Levers, ropes, or a helping ally grant an edge (+2). Awkward shapes, poor footing, or working one-handed imposes a bane (-2).
Tips and playstyle
Best for: The strongest hero in the party, and anyone who expects to rescue allies or clear the path. Character concepts: Laborer career dock worker, hakaan stone hauler, dwarf miner. Synergies: Endurance when the load must be carried for hours, Blacksmithing for moving stock and anvils. Fury builds pick it up cheaply.
Frequently asked questions
Can several heroes combine Lift on one object?
Yes. Helpers can grant an edge, or everyone rolls and keeps the best result, depending on how the object can be gripped.
Can I carry an unconscious ally at full speed?
Usually you move slower or lose your maneuver. A Lift test can let you keep full speed when it matters.
