Fame

Overview
Fame means mortals recognize you: a local musician, a former athlete, an influencer, a screen actor. Recognition gets you into rooms, past velvet ropes, and in front of people who would never meet a nobody. For a vampire it is a knife with two edges. Cameras follow the famous, and a face that never ages is a Masquerade problem waiting to happen.
How it works
Dot ratings: One dot is a local name a few people know; three dots regional recognition with real media attention; five dots international celebrity. Effect: Bonus dice on Social rolls with mortals who recognize you, and easier access to exclusive venues and prey. Rolls to move unnoticed among mortals suffer a matching penalty. Cost: Drawn from the 7 Background dots at creation (typical cap 3 per Background, Storyteller may allow more); after creation each new dot costs 3 times the new rating in XP. Interaction: Fame concerns the mortal world; standing among Kindred is the separate Status background.
Tips and playstyle
Character concepts: Faded rock star, Toreador socialite, retired sports hero, true-crime podcaster, Osiris cult figure. When to take: Take it if you enjoy the tension between being seen and staying hidden. Avoid it for stealth-focused characters.
Frequently asked questions
How do I keep the Masquerade while famous?
Stage a retirement, live through proxies, or lean on the Mask background for a fresh identity when the old one ages out. Many famous Kindred fake their deaths eventually.
Does Fame help against other vampires?
Rarely. Kindred care about Status. Some elders even see mortal fame as reckless and hold it against you.
