Overview

Technology is competence with computers, networks, phones, cameras, and the systems that connect them. That includes hacking, but it also includes the unglamorous work that decides most modern scenes: pulling footage before it uploads, keeping a phone from being tracked, and knowing which of the fourteen cameras on that street record. This is the skill that changed the Masquerade. Elders who spent centuries perfecting how to disappear from human memory now live in a city where every doorway has a lens and every mortal carries a camera. A coterie with no Technology is generating evidence every night, and a neonate who has it is genuinely useful to Kindred four hundred years older than they are.

How it works

Common Rolls:

  • Intelligence + Technology: Programming, system analysis
  • Wits + Technology: Quick technical fixes
  • Resolve + Technology: Extended hacking projects Split With Larceny: Technology handles networked and electronic systems; Larceny handles physical locks and alarms. Most break-ins need both, so specialists usually take a dot in the other. Specialties: Hacking, Security Systems, Surveillance, Social Media, Programming, Networks

Tips and playstyle

Character Concepts: Security researcher, network administrator, surveillance contractor, phone thief, a recently Embraced neonate whose only real advantage over elders is this. Synergies: Larceny covers the physical half of a break-in, Investigation follows the digital trail this skill uncovers, and Finance depends on it once money stopped being paper.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hack anything with enough successes?

No. Storytellers set difficulty by the target, and serious systems are extended rolls with real failure consequences. Isolated networks may need someone physically inside.

Is Technology the most important Masquerade skill?

In a modern chronicle it is close. Footage, phone records, and social media posts are how a feeding becomes evidence, and this is the skill that deletes them.

Do elders have Technology?

Usually very little, which is the point. Kindred who slept through the last thirty years rely on ghouls and neonates for it, and that dependence is real leverage.
