Overview

Envelop wraps the alchemist or a chosen target in a shroud of unnatural darkness that clings rather than drifts. Inside it a mortal cannot see, cannot orient, and struggles to breathe well enough to shout for help. Used on yourself it is cover; used on someone else it is a bag pulled over their head. That second use is what makes Envelop the formula other Kindred notice. A duskborn who can blind and silence one person at a time is useful to a coterie doing quiet work: the guard stops being a problem without dying, the witness never sees a face, the argument in the hallway ends before anyone else hears it. It is a Level 2 recipe, so it takes real preparation rather than a moment of improvisation.

How it works

Level: 2 Effect: Cover yourself or a target in clinging darkness that blinds and disorients, and smothers a living target who stays inside it Ingredients: Blood of the resonance the recipe calls for, prepared with the alchemist's reagents rather than improvised on the spot Duration: Until dismissed or the end of the scene, whichever comes first

Tips and playstyle

Best Uses: Neutralizing a guard without killing them, breaking a hunter's aim, covering a retreat, making a conversation private in a very direct way Limitations: The darkness is visibly wrong, so anyone watching from outside knows something supernatural just happened. It hides shape, not existence, and a determined attacker can still swing at where you were

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Obfuscate?

No. Obfuscate edits what minds perceive. Envelop produces physical darkness, so observers see an obvious black shape and know exactly where to point.

Can I see inside my own darkness?

Not automatically. Experienced alchemists count paces and memorize exits before they use it, or cast it on someone else and stay outside.

Does it suffocate a vampire target?

No. Kindred do not need to breathe, so against another vampire Envelop is a blindfold rather than a smothering. It is far more dangerous to mortals.
