Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition form

Homid

Homid is a form in Werewolf W5: The human shape every Garou can wear, granting no bonuses and the only form that passes in public.

Overview

Homid is the human form and the baseline the other four are measured against: no dice bonus, no penalty, no Delirium. It is where a Garou holds a job, keeps Touchstones, and talks to anyone who is not already Garou. In play Homid is the shape most scenes open and close in. Hands, speech, documents, and locks all work here, and Social tests roll clean, which is the whole argument for staying human while a fight sits one shift away. Homid also names a breed, and the form belongs to all three: a wolf-born Garou wears it badly, but wears it.

How it works

Attribute Changes: None. W5 forms adjust dice pools rather than Attribute ratings, and Homid adjusts nothing. Dice: No bonus and no penalty on any test. Health stays at Stamina plus 3. Speed: Ordinary human movement, the slowest of the five shapes. Delirium: None. Mortals see a person and react to one. Shifting: Rage fuels every change of form, so leaving Homid is paid for on your 0 to 5 Rage tracker. Tools and Speech: Both fully available, which Crinos, Hispo, and Lupus all give up.

Tips and playstyle

Best for: Any scene with witnesses, cameras, or a conversation you need to win, and for most of an urban chronicle. Character concepts: A Glass Walker who solves half of each problem before anyone shifts, a Bone Gnawer working an outreach shift, a wolf-born scout learning to wear a face. Synergies: Charisma, Manipulation, and Composure pools only pay off here, and Persuasion, Etiquette, and Technology are unusable anywhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Homid is both a breed and a form. Are they the same thing?

They share a name only. Breed is how a Garou was born, and Homid form is the human shape all three breeds can take, including a Lupus who finds it deeply uncomfortable.

Why would I fight in Homid?

Because the alternatives cost more than they give. Glabro trades 2 Social dice for 2 Physical dice, and Crinos fails every Social test automatically and triggers Delirium, so a fight in front of people you still need often stays human.

How much tougher is Crinos than Homid?

Four Health levels and 4 dice on Physical tests. Homid sits at Stamina plus 3 with no bonus at all, so that gap is exactly the price of being seen.
