Status (Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition)

Backgrounds

Definition

Status is how much weight your name carries among vampires: a Camarilla neonate with a title, an Anarch whose word ends arguments, a respected figure in a specific scene. It is granted by others and can be taken away. High Status buys audiences, deference, and protection. Low or absent Status means every request is a favor you have to earn.

How it works

**Dot ratings**: One dot marks you as a recognized member; three dots a respected figure with real pull; five dots a Primogen, Baron, or equivalent authority. Tie the rating to one sect or faction. **Effect**: Bonus dice on Social rolls with Kindred who recognize your Status. Losing face, breaking the Traditions, or backing the wrong side can strip dots. **Cost**: Drawn from the 7 Background dots at creation (typical cap 3 per Background, Storyteller may allow more); after creation each new dot costs 3 times the new rating in XP. **Predator Types**: Osiris grants Status +1 within its scene in this system's rules. Caitiff cannot buy Status at creation.

Tips

**Character concepts**: Camarilla Harpy, Anarch Baron's lieutenant, clan whip, scene celebrity, ambitious neonate climbing the court. **When to take**: Take it in political chronicles. Consider taking it as a coterie so at least one member can speak for the group.

Frequently asked questions

Does Camarilla Status help among Anarchs?

No, and it may hurt. Status is faction-specific. The Anarch flaw explicitly marks a character whose politics cost them standing in Camarilla domains.

Can I gain Status during play?

Yes, through service, deals, and victories. The Storyteller can award dots as recognition rather than requiring XP, or let you buy them with XP.
