Anarch (Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition)

Flaws

Definition

The Anarch flaw marks you as a known dissident rather than a quiet sympathizer. You reject the Camarilla's hierarchy in public, and Camarilla Kindred know your name for it. In their cities you are watched at Elysium, refused audiences, and named first whenever something goes wrong in the domain. It is a social flaw, not a weakness of the Blood: nothing about your Disciplines, Hunger, or bane changes. Among Anarchs the same reputation is a credential, which is what makes the flaw interesting when a chronicle moves between a Free State and an Ivory Tower city.

How it works

**Effect**: Penalties on Social rolls with Camarilla Kindred who know your affiliation. Court positions, elder patronage, and formal protection are closed to you entirely. **Interaction**: Any Status you hold applies to the Anarch Movement, not the Camarilla, so a high rating buys you nothing in a Camarilla domain and may make things worse. **Scope**: The flaw costs you nothing in an Anarch-held city, so agree with the Storyteller where the chronicle is set before taking it. **Benefit**: Grants creation experience points or story leverage, like every flaw on the RPG Stack sheet.

Tips

**Character concepts**: Brujah organizer, Gangrel who walked out of the Ivory Tower, thin-blood with nowhere else to go, ex-Camarilla defector who took files with them. **When to take**: Take it in chronicles set in Camarilla cities, where it costs something. In an Anarch Free State it is nearly free XP, and most Storytellers will say so.

Frequently asked questions

Is every Anarch character required to take this flaw?

No. The flaw represents being publicly known as a troublemaker, not holding Anarch sympathies. Plenty of Anarchs pass unremarked in Camarilla company.

Can I lose the flaw by joining the Camarilla?

Reputations fade slowly. Expect a long arc of proving loyalty, usually including something costly, before the Storyteller removes it.

Does it help me among Anarchs?

Socially, yes, but it grants no mechanical bonus. If you want measurable standing in the Movement, buy the Status background and tie it to that faction.
