Politics (Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition)
Definition
Politics is understanding how power is distributed and used, in city hall and in Elysium alike. Who holds a title, who holds the real influence, which committee decides the thing everyone argues about, and what a favor is worth this season. It is analysis rather than charm, and it is what tells you which conversation is worth having. Kindred society is close to nothing but politics. Boons, domains, titles, and grudges make a structure that outlasts any individual, and a neonate who cannot read it will be spent as someone else's tool without ever seeing the hand. Mortal politics matters too, since a prince who cannot influence the police department does not hold the city.

Frequently asked questions
Is Politics or Etiquette more important at court?
Etiquette keeps you from giving offense, Politics tells you which offense would be useful. A political character wants both, usually with Etiquette first.
Does Politics cover mortal government?
Yes, with a specialty. Influence over police, planning departments, and courts is a standard Kindred power base and is bought with this skill's knowledge.
Can I use Politics to gain Status?
It is the usual route. Status is granted by other Kindred, and Politics is how you work out whose approval is worth pursuing and what they want in exchange.
