Keeping campaign notes in Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition

Keep sessions, characters, and notes in one place so your table stays aligned. Use the links below to apply the workflow in Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition and keep it consistent across sessions.

Workflow (do this first)

  1. Create the campaign in one tool, single source of truth for the table.
  2. After each session: one-paragraph recap plus any rules calls the GM made.
  3. NPC log: name, faction, motivation, one line each is enough to keep continuity.
  4. Tag scenes with the characters present so you can search by player or PC later.
Roll loop reminder (Vampire)

VTM V5 uses d10 dice pools: roll Attribute + Skill, count successes on 6+, and watch for criticals on 10s. Hunger dice add personal-horror volatility (messy criticals and bestial failures).

Example: If Hunger dice contribute to a critical, the success is messy: you win, but the Beast shows.

Key facts

  • 14 clans: Brujah and Gangrel run as Anarchs outside the Camarilla; Banu Haqim, Lasombra, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere, and Ventrue hold Camarilla seats; Hecata, Ministry, Ravnos, Salubri, and Tzimisce lean independent, Sabbat, or unaligned
  • 10 Predator Types: Alleycat, Bagger, Blood Leech, Cleaver, Consensualist, Extortionist, Farmer, Osiris, Sandman, Siren
  • Discipline system: In-clan Disciplines cost less XP than out-of-clan
  • Hunger dice: a separate resource (0-5) that adds volatility to rolls via messy criticals or bestial failures
  • Humanity tracking: Starts at 7, decreases with immoral actions
  • Blood Potency: Increases with age, affects feeding and Discipline power

Common mistakes

  • Mistake: Notes in a Discord chat nobody can find next week. Fix: Persistent campaign space, searchable, ordered by session, linked to characters.
  • Mistake: Per-player notes that don’t share. Fix: One shared timeline; private side-notes are fine, but the canonical recap is communal.

Context (system overview)

Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition is a modern gothic horror tabletop roleplaying game where you play as a Kindred, a vampire struggling to maintain their humanity while navigating the complex politics of the Camarilla. Set in a dark reflection of our world, VTM5e combines personal horror with political intrigue, as players balance their Beast against their fading Humanity.
