Overview
Hide is not being seen while you stay put: pressing into a doorway as a patrol passes, crouching behind a warehouse crate, blending into a festival crowd, lying flat in tall grass. Moving between hiding places is Sneak. It comes up in ambushes, infiltration, and any scene where the party would rather watch than fight. In combat, hiding drops you out of an enemy's attention or sets up an attack from concealment.
How it works
Characteristic: Agility. Skill group: Agility skills. Test: 2d10 + Agility; 11 or lower is tier 1, 12 to 16 tier 2, 17 or higher tier 3. Training grants a benefit and unlocks attempts untrained heroes cannot make. How it is used: Tier 3 hides you completely until you act. Tier 2 fools casual observers but a searching enemy may find you. Tier 1 means you are spotted. Edges and banes: Darkness, dense cover, or a distraction grants an edge (+2). Open ground, bright light, noisy gear, or an actively searching enemy imposes a bane (-2).
Tips and playstyle
Best for: Scouts, ambushers, and any hero whose class rewards attacking from concealment. Character concepts: Shadow class assassin, Criminal career burglar, polder street child. Synergies: Sneak for repositioning, Alertness for knowing when a patrol is coming. Enemies hunting you roll Search against your result.
Frequently asked questions
Can I hide in the middle of combat?
Yes, if there is cover or concealment and enemies are not watching you closely. The Director sets whether it takes a maneuver or an action.
What is the difference between Hide and Sneak?
Hide is staying unseen while stationary. Sneak is moving without being noticed. Most infiltrations use both.
