Overview

Sneak covers moving without drawing attention: crossing a creaky hall, slipping past a sentry, trailing someone through a market, closing on an enemy from behind. Staying still in a hiding place is Hide; Sneak is the movement between. It is the core infiltration skill and appears in nearly every stealth scene. In combat it lets a hero approach unseen for a first strike or slip around a flank without drawing fire.

How it works

Characteristic: Agility. Skill group: Agility skills. Test: 2d10 + Agility; 11 or lower is tier 1, 12 to 16 tier 2, 17 or higher tier 3. Training grants a benefit and unlocks attempts untrained heroes cannot make. How it is used: Tier 3 gets you there with no one aware. Tier 2 gets you there but leaves a sound or glimpse that raises suspicion. Tier 1 means you are heard or seen. Edges and banes: Darkness, background noise, or soft ground grants an edge (+2). Heavy armor, gravel, alert guards, or bright light imposes a bane (-2).

Tips and playstyle

Best for: Scouts and strikers, and any party that prefers to choose when a fight starts. Character concepts: Shadow class infiltrator, Criminal career second-story thief, wilderness hunter. Synergies: Hide for stopping points, Pick Lock for the door at the end, Alertness for noticing the sentry before the sentry notices you.

Frequently asked questions

Does the whole party roll Sneak, or just me?

Usually everyone moving rolls, so one hero in plate can give the group away. The Director may let a scout go alone and open the way.

Can I sneak in heavy armor?

You can try with a bane. Kits with lighter armor are built for it.
