Overview
Malkavians are the mad seers of the Camarilla, known for their prophetic visions, mental instability, and unique insights into reality. Every Malkavian sees the world through a fractured lens, a curse of altered perception that also grants them glimpses of truth others cannot see. Malkavian characters are information brokers, prophets, and wild cards. Their Disciplines (Auspex, Dominate, and Obfuscate) make them excellent spies, manipulators, and seers. They can read auras, control minds, and become invisible. However, their clan bane (the Madness) makes them unpredictable and prone to delusions.
How it works
Clan Disciplines: Auspex, Dominate, Obfuscate Clan Bane - Fractured Perspective: When you suffer a Bestial Failure or succumb to a Compulsion, your Curse surfaces. You take a penalty equal to your Bane Severity to one category of dice pools (Physical, Social, or Mental, chosen by the Storyteller) for the rest of the scene. Compulsion: When your Compulsion triggers, you must act according to your fractured perceptions. This might mean following obsessive rituals, speaking in riddles, or reacting to things only you can sense as if they were real. Starting Disciplines: Choose 3 dots among Auspex, Dominate, and Obfuscate (max 2 dots in any single Discipline at creation).

Playstyle: Malkavians excel at information gathering, manipulation, and being unpredictable. They're excellent for players who enjoy roleplaying complex characters with unique worldviews. Consider pairing with Predator Types like Sandman (stealth) or Siren (manipulation). Synergies: Auspex allows you to gather information through supernatural senses. Dominate lets you control and manipulate others. Obfuscate makes you invisible and undetectable. Combine these for ultimate information gathering and manipulation.
Frequently asked questions
How do prophetic visions work?
Malkavians sometimes receive glimpses of truth through their madness. These visions are often cryptic, symbolic, or incomplete. Work with your Storyteller to incorporate prophetic elements that enhance the story without spoiling plot twists.
How does the Malkavian Curse manifest?
The Curse is a deeply personal, fractured way of perceiving reality, not a clinical diagnosis. A Malkavian might hear what goes unspoken in a room, fixate on patterns no one else notices, or sense truths others miss. It shapes how your character experiences the world every night, and it surfaces mechanically as the Bane (Fractured Perspective) when you suffer a Bestial Failure or give in to a Compulsion. Build the Curse around your character's unique lens on the world rather than a list of disorders.
Are Malkavians good for new players?
Malkavians can be challenging for new players due to the roleplay complexity of their fractured perspective. However, if you're interested in playing a complex, information-focused character, they can be very rewarding. Start by deciding one or two consistent ways your character's perceptions differ from everyone else's, and let those guide your roleplay.
