Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition flaw

Prey Exclusion

Prey Exclusion is a flaw in Vampire V5: a category of prey you refuse to feed from, whatever the cost.

Last reviewed

Overview

Prey Exclusion means there is a group you will not hunt: children, the poor, the unwilling, people of your old faith, or even mortals in general for a Blood Leech. It is a line your Humanity draws for you. Hunger does not respect lines. The flaw matters most on the nights when the excluded prey is the only prey available.

How it works

Effect: Feeding from the excluded group, deliberately or by accident, inflicts Stains as if you had violated a Chronicle Tenet. Hunting rolls suffer when the excluded group is the easiest option. Story hook: This system's Predator Types hand it out directly: Consensualist excludes non-consenting prey, and Blood Leech may exclude mortals entirely. Benefit: Grants creation experience points or story leverage, like every flaw on the RPG Stack sheet.

Tips and playstyle

Character concepts: Consensualist, Farmer who will not touch humans, former nurse who spares patients, religious Kindred protecting their congregation. When to take: Take it if you want feeding to stay a moral question rather than a routine roll.

Frequently asked questions

What if I feed from the excluded group by accident?

The Stains still apply. Learning afterward that a victim belonged to the group is the flaw's most common and most painful trigger.

Can I take it more than once?

Only with Storyteller approval, and only for distinct groups. Stacking exclusions narrows hunting until it becomes unplayable.
