Overview

Occult Library is a collection dedicated to the supernatural: grimoires, ritual notes, Kindred histories, and forbidden manuscripts. Tremere chantries, Hecata family archives, and paranoid Nosferatu hoards are classic examples. Such a collection is dangerous property. Other Kindred will steal for it, and hunters recognize what it means.

How it works

Effect: Bonus dice or reduced research time on Occult rolls to identify rituals, supernatural creatures, and Discipline effects. The Storyteller may reveal information that is unavailable anywhere else. Scope: Define the collection's specialty (for example, Blood Sorcery, ghosts, or Kindred lineages). Cost: A single merit on the RPG Stack sheet; grow it after creation at the new dot times 3 XP rate. Synergies: Blood Sorcery and Oblivion practitioners who research new rituals, and the Haven background to keep it safe.

Tips and playstyle

Character concepts: Tremere scholar, Hecata necromancer, occult bookseller, defrocked priest, cult survivor. When to take: Essential for Blood Sorcery users planning to learn rituals. Also strong for investigative coteries facing unknown threats.

Frequently asked questions

How is Occult Library different from Library?

Library covers mundane fields such as history or law. Occult Library covers the supernatural. Many scholars take both.

Can I learn new rituals from my library?

It gives the Storyteller a reason to make a ritual available and can speed research, but you still pay XP for the ritual itself.
