Overview

Curiosity is the Drive of hunters who stayed after the first encounter because they had to know. The question came first and the Hunt came second, and it keeps them walking toward the noise when every sensible instinct says leave. A Curiosity hunter opens the file, reads the ritual out loud, and follows the creature home. That appetite is a liability at the table, and it is supposed to be. Curiosity pulls a cell into places they were not equipped for. Conviction rates 1 to 3 and sets how many dice your Drive lends you, spent on the moment when understanding is the only thing between the cell and a bad death.

How it works

Tested When: The answer is behind something dangerous, when the safe move means never learning the truth, or when what you uncover turns out to be worse than not knowing. Desperation: The unknown itself corners a Curiosity hunter. Desperation rates 1 to 5 and adds dice to an attribute plus skill pool on ten sided dice, where 6 or higher is a success. Despair: If a Desperation die comes up 1 and the roll fails, you fall into Despair and lose access to Desperation dice entirely until you redeem yourself. Redemption: Redemption runs through the Drive, so Curiosity climbs out of Despair by learning something real: naming the creature, or finding the answer that makes the next confrontation survivable.

Tips and playstyle

Best for: Investigation-led chronicles, players who want the research scenes to matter, and cells whose Storyteller likes to withhold what the monster is. Character concepts: A folklorist who recorded the wrong interview, a coroner who kept a body off the records, a true crime podcaster who found a case with no human suspect. Synergies: The Inquisitive creed shares this method and the Library Edge gives you sources. Back it with Intelligence plus Occult, the roll that names what you are facing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Curiosity without getting the cell killed?

Ask for the extra hour rather than the extra room. Curiosity should push the group toward information they can act on, and a hunter who investigates before the confrontation is far more useful than one who lifts the sheet during it.

What does redeeming Curiosity look like in a scene?

Solving something. Your hunter finds the piece of the puzzle that turns an unknown threat into a named one, which restores your access to Desperation dice and usually rescues the session as well.

Does Curiosity work outside the Inquisitive creed?

Yes. Drive and Creed are separate choices, and a Martial hunter driven by Curiosity is a distinct character: someone who fights well and studies what they killed afterward.
