Overview
The Cult of Ecstasy work magic by breaking their own perception open. Drugs, music, sex, pain, fasting, and dance are all valid instruments, and the Tradition treats the insight that follows as data rather than escape. Their specialty Sphere is Time, the mechanical version of their claim that a mind pushed past its habits stops experiencing moments in order. In play a Cultist is the cabal's seer and its wildcard. Time at rank 2 makes you the best investigator at the table, reading the past of a room instead of interviewing witnesses, while rank 1 quietly wins initiative all night. The Tradition also carries a real content question, since ecstatic practice touches substances and consent, so settle with your group where the fiction stops before the first session rather than during it.
How it works
Focus: Mysticism through sensation, altered states, and the perception of time Typical Spheres: Time (the Tradition's specialty), Mind, Life, Entropy Paradigm: Reality bends for a mind that has broken its own habits of perception Practice: Ecstatic ritual, dance, chemical and sensory extremes, sacred sexuality Instruments: Drumming, drugs, pain, exhaustion, poetry, extreme sport
Tips and playstyle
Best For: Players who want the investigative seat, an unpredictable character, and a Tradition with a strong sensory voice. Playstyle: Buy Time first and pair it with Awareness and Empathy. Describe how an effect feels rather than what it does, and use rank 2 visions to hand the cabal leads other Traditions would have to earn. Character Concepts: Club DJ who reads crowds, festival oracle, extreme athlete, addicted prophet, performance artist with a following.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to play a drug user?
No. Ecstasy here means any state that breaks ordinary perception: marathon running, fasting, drumming, sensory deprivation, or grief all qualify. Choose an instrument you want to bring to the table.
Why is Time their specialty Sphere?
Because the Tradition's core claim is that a mind past its limits stops experiencing time in a straight line. In practice it means a Cultist's Time effects are the ones their paradigm explains most easily, which helps keep them coincidental.
What does a Cult of Ecstasy mage do in a fight?
Act first and see it coming. Time rank 1 sharpens timing, rank 3 speeds you up or slows an opponent, and Mind or Life covers the rest. They control fights rather than winning them with damage.
