Overview
Caitiff are the clanless. Their blood carries no recognizable lineage, usually because the sire fled or was too thin-blooded to pass a clan on. Kindred society reads that absence as a defect and treats Caitiff as squatters in a world built entirely around bloodline. The tradeoff is real. A Caitiff carries no clan curse and no compulsion, and can learn any Discipline, so they cover whatever their coterie lacks. What they cannot buy is respect: princes withhold Status and harpies treat clanlessness as a standing insult.
How it works
Clan Disciplines: None. A Caitiff may learn any Discipline, and none of them count as in clan. Clan Bane - None: No inherited curse. Your Storyteller sets the Bane Severity used by any rule that calls for one, usually matching your Blood Potency. Compulsion: None, so a messy critical never forces clan behavior on you. Experience: Every Discipline costs one flat rate, between this system's in-clan five and out-of-clan seven per new dot. Starting Disciplines: Three dots at creation from any Disciplines, maximum two in any one.
Tips and playstyle
Character Concepts: Abandoned accidental Embrace, a thin-blood's childe, a street survivor, a diablerist hiding stolen blood. Playstyle: Patch the coterie's gaps instead of chasing a theme, and press the advantage when other clans lose control of the Beast. Synergies: Contacts and Haven outperform the Status no court will grant you.
Frequently asked questions
Is clanlessness purely a penalty?
No. You lose in-clan pricing and social standing, and you gain any Discipline you can find a teacher for, with no bane and no compulsion.
How do Caitiff learn Disciplines with no clan to teach them?
By drinking the blood of vampires who carry the power, or by finding a teacher willing to be seen with them.
