Overview
Blood Potency 1 is where nearly every player character begins. This system sets starting Blood Potency at 1 unless the chronicle says otherwise, and its age table puts anyone dead five years or less here. You are a true vampire with access to Disciplines, a working Blood Surge, and a clan bane that has started to bite. It is also the most flexible rating you will ever have. Animals still feed you, so an inconvenient night has an ugly but workable answer. Kindred society reads you as a fledgling, which means low expectations, low protection, and the freedom that comes with nobody thinking you matter yet.
How it works
Blood Surge Bonus: +1 die Mend Amount: 1 Superficial damage per Rouse Check Power Bonus: None Feeding Penalty: None; animal blood still works Bane Severity: 1 Discipline Max: 5 Starting Point: This system's rules set new characters at Blood Potency 1 and cap Disciplines at 2 dots at creation
Tips and playstyle
Who Has This: Fledglings, most player characters at session one, anyone dead five years or less by this system's age table Advantages: Full access to Disciplines, the widest feeding options of any true vampire, and a bane at its mildest Disadvantages: One die of Blood Surge, one point of mending per Rouse Check, and no Discipline power bonus at all, so you win fights with tactics rather than raw Blood
Frequently asked questions
How long until my Blood Potency rises?
This system's age table puts 6 to 25 years dead at Blood Potency 2 and 26 to 50 at 3. Experience points or diablerie can move you faster.
Should I raise Blood Potency as soon as I can?
Not automatically. Each step tightens what you can feed on and worsens your bane, so many players hold at 1 or 2 far longer than the fiction requires.
Can I live on animal blood?
At this rating, yes, which is what makes the Farmer predator type viable. That stops at Blood Potency 3, so it is a temporary arrangement by design.
