Overview
Blood Potency 3 marks the ancilla, the vampire who has outlasted the neonates and is now expected to be useful. Blood Surge rises to +2 dice, Disciplines can climb to 6 dots, and this system's age table places anyone dead between twenty-six and fifty years at this rating. This is also the rating that ends a certain kind of character. Animal blood provides nothing at all from here, so the Farmer either changes how they feed or starts starving. Ancillae are the working layer of Kindred society: senior enough to be given problems, junior enough that the problems are dangerous ones.
How it works
Blood Surge Bonus: +2 dice Mend Amount: 2 Superficial damage per Rouse Check Power Bonus: +1 die to Discipline rolls Feeding Penalty: You must drain humans; animal blood provides nothing Bane Severity: 3 Discipline Max: 6 Typical Age: 26 to 50 years dead in this system's approximation table
Tips and playstyle
Who Has This: Ancillae, clan whips, long-running player characters, the Kindred a prince sends when something needs handling Advantages: Discipline ratings above the fledgling ceiling of 5, and two extra dice on a Blood Surge when a scene turns physical Disadvantages: Human vessels only, a Severity 3 bane, and enough standing that your failures are now noticed by people who can act on them Watch For: Mending stays at 2 Superficial per Rouse Check here, the same as Blood Potency 2, so the step up is about reach rather than durability
Frequently asked questions
Why does animal blood stop working?
The Blood grows more particular as it thickens. This system states it plainly: at Blood Potency 3 animal blood provides nothing, so every meal now involves a person.
What happens to a Farmer character here?
They have a crisis. The predator type stops functioning, and the character either finds human vessels, changes predator type with the Storyteller, or spends the chronicle starving.
Do I have to kill to feed at this rating?
The rules say drain humans, not kill them. Most Storytellers run it as needing a deep, dangerous feeding rather than a sip, which is a Humanity problem either way.
