Key facts

Level
4

Overview

Blood Potency 4 is elder territory. Discipline rolls gain +2 dice, a single Rouse Check closes 3 Superficial damage, and Disciplines can reach 7 dots, which is past anything a younger Kindred can answer. Characters at this rating influence cities rather than blocks. The feeding requirement is what defines the nights. Plain human blood no longer satisfies: the vessel must carry emotional resonance, which turns hunting into a search for a particular mood rather than a particular person. Elders build herds, cultivate scenes, and pay other Kindred to deliver the right kind of prey, because doing it personally every night is a full-time job.

How it works

Blood Surge Bonus: +2 dice Mend Amount: 3 Superficial damage per Rouse Check Power Bonus: +2 dice to Discipline rolls Feeding Penalty: Requires emotionally resonant blood Bane Severity: 4 Discipline Max: 7 Consequence: Empty resonance vessels no longer sustain you at all

Tips and playstyle

Who Has This: Elders, Primogen, established barons, and antagonists a coterie is not supposed to fight head-on Advantages: Two bonus dice on every Discipline roll, Disciplines above the ancilla ceiling of 6, and healing fast enough to walk out of most fights Disadvantages: A hunt that requires the right emotion every night, a Severity 4 bane, and a reputation that makes you a target for anyone ambitious Watch For: The Blood Surge bonus does not improve from Blood Potency 3, so what you are buying here is Discipline power and healing

Frequently asked questions

What counts as resonant blood?

Blood carrying a real emotional state: choleric, melancholic, phlegmatic, or sanguine. Animal blood and empty-resonance vessels do not qualify, which rules out a large share of the city.

Does the resonance have to match my Disciplines?

No. Any resonance satisfies the feeding requirement. Matching it to your Disciplines is how you also collect the bonus die, so most elders hunt with a preference.

Should a player character go this high?

Only in a long chronicle. The power is substantial, but every session then has a hunting problem attached, and Storytellers will hold you to it.
