Overview
Blood Potency 2 is the first real step up and the first real cost. Disciplines gain a bonus, mending doubles to 2 Superficial damage per Rouse Check, and your clan bane reaches Severity 2. This system's age table puts anyone dead between six and twenty-five years here, so it is where a surviving fledgling ends up without doing anything in particular. The cost is at the neck. Animal blood becomes less nourishing, which is the first warning that the easy option is closing. Characters who built their unlife around not hurting people start planning here, because Blood Potency 3 removes the option entirely.
How it works
Blood Surge Bonus: +1 die Mend Amount: 2 Superficial damage per Rouse Check Power Bonus: +1 die to Discipline rolls Feeding Penalty: Animal blood is less nourishing Bane Severity: 2 Discipline Max: 5 Typical Age: 6 to 25 years dead in this system's approximation table
Tips and playstyle
Who Has This: Established neonates, characters a few chronicles into their unlife, most surviving player characters after significant experience spending Advantages: A bonus die on Discipline rolls and twice the mending of a fledgling, both for the same single Rouse Check Disadvantages: A worse bane and the beginning of the feeding squeeze, with animal blood no longer a full solution and human vessels becoming the default Watch For: This is the last rating at which a Farmer character can operate normally, so use it to plan
Frequently asked questions
What does a higher Bane Severity do?
It makes your clan curse hit harder: a Nosferatu is more repellent, a Ventrue's prey restriction bites more often, a Brujah's fury is harder to hold. The specifics come from your clan bane.
Is the Power Bonus worth the feeding penalty?
For a Discipline-heavy character, usually yes, since +1 die applies to every Discipline roll. For a Farmer or a high-Humanity character it is often a bad trade.
Can I choose not to advance?
Yes. Blood Potency rises with age in the fiction, but the rating on your sheet only changes when you spend experience or the Storyteller advances the clock.
