Key facts

- Instinct
Overview
Animal blood carries instinct rather than emotion, so it has no resonance a vampire can use. A deer, a stray dog, or a bled pig will fill you without giving you anything else: no Discipline bonus, no dyscrasia, and nothing to build a hunting strategy around beyond finding a large enough animal. It also stops working. This system ties feeding to Blood Potency, and animal blood is already less nourishing at Blood Potency 2 and provides nothing at all from Blood Potency 3 onward. Farmers who swore never to touch a human find that promise expiring on a schedule they do not control, which is exactly the tragedy the predator type is built around.
How it works
Emotion: Instinct only, with no human emotional content Discipline Bonus: None at any Blood Potency Feeding Penalty: Fine at Blood Potency 0 and 1, less nourishing at Blood Potency 2, and worthless from Blood Potency 3 up Sources: Large mammals give the most usable blood; livestock, strays, and hunted game are the practical options, while small animals barely register
Tips and playstyle
Best For: Fledglings at Blood Potency 1, Farmer predators, characters protecting a high Humanity, and anyone caught in an emergency with no vessel nearby Limitations: No resonance benefit at any age, a window that closes as your Blood Potency rises, and open contempt from Kindred who consider it beneath the Blood Planning Ahead: A Farmer character should have an answer ready for the night their Blood Potency hits 3, because the rules will force the question
Frequently asked questions
Which animals work?
Large mammals such as deer, dogs, and livestock. A rat or a bird holds so little blood that you would need dozens to matter.
At what point do I have to stop?
Blood Potency 3 in this system's rules. From there animal blood provides nothing, and a Farmer character has to change how they live or start starving.
Is animal feeding safer for the Masquerade?
Usually yes, since there is no witness who can talk. Missing livestock and drained pets still draw attention from farmers, police, and hunters.
