Overview
Banu Haqim (formerly the Assamites) are the judges of the Kindred, an independent clan that has aligned with the Camarilla in V5. They are religious zealots, lawyers, and assassins who hunt down those who violate moral or legal codes, both Kindred and mortal. Banu Haqim trace their lineage to the Levant and bring centuries of jurisprudence and blood-magic to bear on the Final Nights. Banu Haqim characters excel at investigation, combat, and Blood Sorcery. Their Disciplines (Blood Sorcery, Celerity, and Obfuscate) make them ideal hunters: fast, hidden, and magically armed. However, their clan bane (Blood-Addiction) creates a dangerous addiction to vampire vitae, since tasting Kindred blood risks pulling them into Hunger frenzy.
How it works
Clan Disciplines: Blood Sorcery, Celerity, Obfuscate Clan Bane - Blood-Addiction: When a Banu Haqim tastes the blood of another Kindred, they must roll Composure + Resolve at a Difficulty equal to their Bane Severity or enter Hunger frenzy until they have drained the vampire. They are addicted to vampire vitae and the urge to drink another Kindred dry is overpowering. Compulsion - Judgment: When triggered, you must punish someone you perceive as having committed a wrong, even if minor, by inflicting at least one level of Superficial damage (or stealing a Resonance dot of vitae from them). Starting Disciplines: Choose 3 dots among Blood Sorcery, Celerity, and Obfuscate (max 2 dots in any single Discipline at creation).
Tips and playstyle
Character Concepts: Judge, defense attorney, war criminal hunter, assassin, religious enforcer, internal-affairs investigator, occult scholar. Playstyle: Banu Haqim are excellent for players who want a moral-code-driven character with combat and magical capability. They work well as the coterie's investigator or as a vampire-hunting specialist within Kindred society. Pair with Predator Types like Sandman (stealth hunting) or Headhunter (hunting other supernaturals), but Headhunter combined with the Blood-Addiction bane is mechanically punishing, so consider carefully. Synergies: Blood Sorcery rituals for tracking, scrying, and combat magic; Celerity for closing distance fast; Obfuscate for surveillance and assassinations. Invest in Investigation, Stealth, and Occult.
Frequently asked questions
Are Banu Haqim Camarilla, Anarch, or independent?
Officially, the Banu Haqim have joined the Camarilla in V5, replacing the lost Tremere seat on the Inner Circle. In practice, many Banu Haqim still hold to their independent traditions, and some side with the Anarchs. Storytellers should decide what works for the chronicle.
How do I roleplay the Blood-Addiction bane?
Treat Kindred vitae like a drug your character craves but knows is destructive. The smell of blood from another vampire is intoxicating; a deliberate drink is nearly impossible to walk away from. This creates rich roleplay tension whenever the coterie negotiates with other Kindred.
How does Banu Haqim Blood Sorcery differ from Tremere?
Mechanically they share the Blood Sorcery Discipline, but the flavor differs: Banu Haqim sorcery descends from pre-Islamic Levantine traditions and tends to focus on tracking, judgment, and weapon enhancement. Tremere magic comes from the Order of Hermes and leans toward laboratory ritual.
