Overview
Ordnance is the asset Edge for breaching charges, incendiaries, and heavy demolition equipment. It exists for targets a bullet cannot solve: a reinforced door, a tunnel that has to come down, a nest that has to burn with everything inside it. The Edge is loud and irreversible, and that is its design tension. Using Ordnance succeeds and simultaneously raises the Danger rating of the situation, because explosions bring police, fire crews, and news cameras to the place you just cleared. Cells that carry Ordnance end up planning more rather than less, since the Edge only pays off when the exit was arranged first.
How it works
Category: Asset Effect: Access to explosives, incendiaries, and demolition tools Benefits: Open sealed structures, destroy a lair or a body beyond recovery, deny an area to something that regenerates, and with Perks place more precise charges or larger yields Advancement: No dot rating. Buy the base Edge, then Perks at 5 XP each for tighter charges, bigger blasts, or improvised compositions
Tips and playstyle
Best For: Cells facing threats that shrug off conventional damage, Martial creed hunters, players who prefer preparing the ground to trading blows on it. Playstyle: Pair Ordnance with the Craft or Science skill, because those are what a Storyteller calls for when a charge has to be built or placed correctly. Decide before you use it who is still inside the building, since an Ordnance solution that kills bystanders is a fast route to a Despair result later, when a 1 on a Desperation die lands on a failed roll. Treat every use as evidence, because bomb-making material is a felony on its own. Character Concepts: Combat engineer, demolition contractor, quarry blaster, chemistry teacher, arsonist trying to aim it at something that deserves it.
Frequently asked questions
How is Ordnance different from Arsenal?
Arsenal arms hunters against individual targets, while Ordnance destroys places and objects. If the problem is the creature standing in front of you, Arsenal is the answer; if the problem is the building it lives in, Ordnance is.
What do I roll when I use Ordnance?
Usually Craft for building and placing a charge, sometimes Science for the chemistry, and Awareness or Investigation for picking the right structural point. The Edge is why you have the material and the training; the skill roll decides whether it goes where you meant it to.
Will using explosives end the chronicle?
It can change it permanently. Explosions bring law enforcement, and hunters have no supernatural cover story to hide behind. Many Storytellers treat an Ordnance use as an escalation that follows the cell for several sessions, so agree on that consequence before you buy the Edge.
