Overview
Global Access covers the contacts and practiced knowledge that get a hunter where they are not authorized to be. Customs desks, security checkpoints, gated facilities, hospital records departments, and the bureaucracy behind all of them are the obstacles this Edge is built to defeat. It is the Edge that keeps a chronicle from stalling at a jurisdiction line. When the creature moves country, or the evidence sits in a facility that requires clearance, Global Access is why the cell follows instead of watching it leave. It works with the Subterfuge, Etiquette, and Politics skills, which handle the actual moment of being questioned by someone empowered to turn you away.
How it works
Category: Aptitude Effect: Cross borders, enter restricted areas, and navigate institutional obstacles Benefits: Obtain documents that survive inspection, move equipment through customs, gain entry to facilities that keep access lists, and with Perks reach government-level clearance and standing deep cover identities Advancement: No dot rating. Buy the base Edge, then Perks at 5 XP each for stronger documents, higher clearance, or maintained identities in more than one country
Tips and playstyle
Best For: International or multi-city chronicles, infiltration-heavy cells, players who want to be the character who solves the paperwork problem. Playstyle: Global Access is only as good as the roll that follows it, so back it with Subterfuge for lying to an official and Etiquette for belonging in the room. Combine it with the Contacts background from your 7 background dots so there is a named person on the other end instead of an abstraction. Be specific about which countries or institutions you have depth in, because a Storyteller will give you more when the answer is not everywhere. Character Concepts: Former intelligence officer, freight forwarder, travel journalist, immigration lawyer, smuggler who switched to a different cargo.
Frequently asked questions
Does Global Access work everywhere?
No. It supplies documents, contacts, and procedural knowledge, and heavily secured sites still need a plan and a roll. Storytellers commonly rule that the Edge removes the ordinary obstacle and leaves the extraordinary one standing.
Is this an infiltration Edge or a travel Edge?
Both, because they are the same problem at different scales. Getting into a country and getting into a records room both come down to documentation, confidence, and knowing which official makes the decision.
What happens if one of my identities is burned?
You lose that identity, not the Edge, because Global Access is an aptitude rather than property. Rebuilding costs story time, and a Perk at 5 XP that gives you several standing identities is the usual insurance against it.
